The climate in Santa Barbara is fantastic – each day we’ve spent there, the temperature has been a perfect 80F. We asked our neighbor at the dock if it’s warmer in the summer. “Much warmer – it’s in the low 80’s then,” he replied. So after Mike’s mom flew back to St. Louis, we decided to spend a few extra days in the harbor.
It was also convenient that the Santa Barbara Harbor Festival was going on while we were docked at the marina. They had lots of local seafood, live music, tours of NOAA R/V Shearwater & USCG Cutter Blackfin, and admission to the the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum.
Santa Barbara is a major tourist town, so there’s a wide selection of great restaurants. In typical style, though, Madrone’s crew spent their time exploring as many local taquerias as possible – Mony’s Tacos and Lilly’s Taqueria tied for first place in our ultra-scientific taste test. If any readers dispute the results, we’ll be happy to run the test again!
