Rounding out the crew aboard NDS Evolution is Ignacia, or Nacha for short. Originally from Santiago, Nacha moved to the island of Chiloe with her partner Pablo in search of a simpler life away from the city. Together with Pablo, she has now built their house, started a sailing school, and is growing a sail repair and sailmaking business. Just to be sure that they don’t have any free time, they also build traditional wooden sailboats.
This is Nacha’s first ocean passage – she lives just down the road from Gaspar, the boat’s captain, and he invited her along to serve as deckhand. After the first few rough days, she has settled in and now seems like an ocean veteran. She’s done so well, in fact, that the owner Alejandro has invited her to stay on for another month when the new crew joins the boat in the Gambiers.
One of the great things about sailing is that we have the opportunity to meet nice, genuine people, and getting to know Nacha has been a perfect example of that.
