When we left California, we had a 10 day forecast that showed good wind each day. The issue with forecasts is that only the first 3-5 days is really reliable. After that, the forecast accuracy goes way down.
Sure enough, the current forecast for the next few days now looks nothing like it did just a few days ago. Instead of 15-20kts of good wind, the forecast is now for 0-5 or perhaps 10kts. Combined with some leftover swell from the recent strong winds, that makes it difficult for us to keep the boat sailing. The wind began to die last night and it is down to 5kts now.
So, we’ll likely spend the next several days with some combination of running the motor, flying the spinnaker, or perhaps even drifting. Our goal of 14 days looks difficult now, but we’re enjoying the journey.
The good news is that it’s starting to warm up. The water temp finally crossed 70F today, and its short sleeves in the cockpit when the sun is out.
