Making the teak look beautiful again

We’ve taken advantage of being in San Diego to attend to a few last minute projects.  The varnished teak in our cockpit was sunbleached and cracking.  Tackling this project means removing some of the sailing hardware from the deck, which in turn means that we need to do it while we’re not moving for a few days.  We applied a total of four coats of Cetol Natural Teak and Marine Gloss – it was well overdue and made a big difference in the appearance of the wood.

Up the mast to remove the old radar before installing the new one

Our radar system was state of the art when it was installed in 1996.  Now that it’s 2018, it still works (some of the time, at least), but it gulps power and is difficult to use.  So, we upgraded the recalcitrant radar with a new model, and added a new chartplotter that can overlay the radar returns on a navigation chart in conjunction with displaying AIS targets.

Hard at work collecting our numerous Amazon packages

San Diego is also the last place to easily have goods delivered to us before heading to Mexico, so we’ve taken full advantage.  Amazon Locker is a service that seems like it was invented for travelling folks like us – we spent a pleasant afternoon zipping across San Diego Bay by dinghy to get to the downtown area in order to pick up packages that were waiting for us.
