Coronado Island forms the western edge of San Diego Bay. While it’s called an island, there’s actually a connection to the mainland by a long strip of sand.
So the geography might be in dispute, but what cannot be disputed is the fact that Coronado is lovely! The island itself is shared between the city of Coronado and the Coronado Naval Air Station. The former provides plenty of good restaurants, neighborhoods of beautiful houses, and a beach that looks about a mile wide. The latter offers a near constant stream of boats and various aircraft – it’s a great spot for anyone who enjoys watching vessels ferrying to and fro.
We intended to stop in Coronado for a night, and we ended up staying for five. It’s hard to leave!
