After a couple of days of solo exploration of Mazatlan, we were happy to reconnect with our friends Brad and Sonni (not to mention their dogs!) from SV Luego. Sightseeing is always fun, but it’s better with friends.
One top attraction of Mazatlan is El Faro, a lighthouse at the top of a large hill that forms the northwest edge of the protected harbor. El Faro’s light turns out to be the highest aid to navigation in the world, not because the lighthouse is particularly tall but because of the elevation of the top of the hill.
Even with the early morning start, it still got plenty hot. And all of that walking in the heat makes tourists thirsty, so it was only natural to quench our thirst at a local craft brewery. Cerveceria Tres Islas is a small operation, but that doesn’t stop them from brewing great beer and serving it with a typical Mexican friendliness and welcoming attitude. By late afternoon the place was completely full, and we enjoyed a pleasant couple of hours getting to know new friends from Pura Vida and Blue Heron.
After a couple of days of exploring the city, Mazatlan turned out to be a great stop and we’d happily return for more.
