With nights in La Cruz, Punta Mita, and Yelapa already in the books, the natural next stop was trip to Puerto Vallarta itself. The closest marina to the central part of town is Marina Vallarta, and we pulled in mid-afternoon after winding our way down the long channel past a variety of 100’+ motoryachts.
We had two goals for the trip. First, we of course wanted to check out the town so that the Toms could get a flavor for Puerto Vallarta. Second and probably more importantly, if we’re honest, was to search for a good pescado zarandeado restaurant.
Success on both counts! Angie consulted with a local policeman for a recommendation for the best zandeado spot downtown, and his suggestion was spot on. The four of us enjoyed a huge pargo marinated and cooked over a wood fire located in a small alcove off the front sidewalk – absolutely delicious! A three block walk put us on the malecon for an after dinner stroll, and Puerto Vallarta showed its best side with Mexican families enjoying the water front and the cool nighttime temperatures.
And just to remind us that we’re still in tropical Mexico, when we returned back to the boat we found a pair of giant crocodiles patrolling the edge of the marina – no swimming here!
