Angie, Marco, Jan & Liz ready for the Ballet Folklorico

We were so impressed with Mexico City after our first visit that we invited our parents to join us for a second visit.  It had been 30 years since Marco and Jan brought a 5 year old Angie and her brother for a visit to the capital of Mexico, and Liz had never seen the city.

We enjoyed the live music, beautiful costumes and fantastic dancing at the performance

Our typical strategy for a new city is to wander the streets, find a place to sit and drink coffee to watch the world go by, and just generally get a feel for the place.

We explored Chapultepec Park on foot

The nice thing about that approach is that it’s very relaxing and minimizes stress, but the downside is that sometimes key tourist attractions are missed.

That was certainly true of our first couple of weeks in Mexico City – we ate and drank well and soaked up the city vibe, but we didn’t hit many of the places that the city is famous for.

Our visit to the Anthropology museum was outstanding

So, this second trip with parents was a perfect opportunity to change our approach.  Instead of aimless wandering, Angie set up an itinerary for the visit that touched on many of Mexico City’s greatest hits.

Our guide, Rogelio, taught us about Teotihuacan

We spent an evening at the folkloric ballet in the spectacular Palacio de Bellas Artes, enjoyed a tour of the famous anthropology museum (led by a real, live anthropologist that Angie found online), and traveled to Teotihuacan to see and climb the ancient pyramids.

As usual, Angie arranged for a fabulous place to stay through Airbnb, and a good time was had by all.  Viva Mexico!
