The afternoon dinghy ride back to Madrone revealed a new boat in the anchorage – Lucipara2 from the Netherlands. A beautiful vintage steel ketch from 1965, Ivar and Floris renovated the boat over a period of 15 years before embarking on their voyage.
Their agenda is a bit different from the average boat. In addition to travelling under sail and exploring new places, they are documenting sustainable energy and living solutions as they go.
Check out sailorsforsustainability.nl to see what they’ve found.
We were fortunate to be able to share dinner, some wine, and even coffee and pastries with them. They’re headed west from here, having previously traveled north through Patagonia on their way to Easter Island, and were very patient with all of our questions about successfully cruising southern Chile.
Ivar and Floris are both passionate, in the most positive sense of the word, about sustainability. It was a pleasure to meet them, and it just reinforces the fact that meeting new sailors is one of the best parts of cruising.
