For the past several days, we’ve been heading nearly straight eastward. Our latitude is more or less the Southern Hemisphere equivalent of San Francisco.

As we’ve moved south the water temperature has steadily fallen, and the air temperature has dropped with it even though we’re smack dab in the heart of summer here. We’re in about 66 degree water now, and the temperature will continue to drop as we approach the cold Humboldt Current of the coast of South America.

Today marked a milestone in the passage – long pants on night watch for the first time in a long time!
