So far, Madrone’s winter home at Marina Estancilla outside Valdivia has been a great place to be. And one of the people most responsible for that is the marina manager. Marcelo lives with his family in a house in the marina grounds, and he does a great job of making sure that all of the boats are safe and that everybody has what they need.
But it’s not Marcelo’s managerial skill that sold Angie on the marina. Instead, it’s that Marcelo has a lot of pets. There are either two or three cats that live at the house – it’s hard to tell how many are actually his, because there are also a few more feral cats nearby that are being fed (maybe by Marcelo also).
Marcelo also has a trio of dogs, and it’s not clear whether Angie was happier to meet the dogs or whether the dogs were happier to meet Angie. Either way, it’s turned out to be a match made in heaven. Angie gets a dog fix, and the dogs get a lot of scratches and belly rubs.
The first trip to the grocery store included a refresh of Madrone’s stash of dog biscuits, and the dogs now spend a fair part of each day lounging at the head of Madrone’s slip. The dogs probably don’t understand English, but they definitely understand Angie.
