Francisco and Alejandro met twenty years ago – Alejandro was expanding his business into Chile and was introduced to Francisco’s law firm. They got along well, and stayed in touch both personally and professionally over the years.
In his late 30s, Francisco decided that the pace of building a successful law business was too much, so he stepped back into a simpler life. He now splits time between his place in Santiago and a large ranch in Patagonia.
This is Francisco’s tenth sailing trip together with Alejandro, so they obviously get along well onboard. After one of the earlier voyages, he was inspired to buy his own boat, which he keeps in Tulum, Mexico.
Even though English is not his first language, Francisco has a quick wit and always seems to be ready with a story. He is also the undisputed master of ceviche, making quick and delicious work of the mahi and tuna that we’ve reeled aboard during the passage.
Francisco had his 50th birthday this week, and to help us celebrate he prepared a delicious lunch – king crab legs, crab claws, and a large dish of chupe (a kind of typical Chilean crab cake), all washed down with a magnum of Prosecco. He followed lunch by placing a poetical message in the now empty bottle and launching it over the side of NDS. We encourage anyone who receives it to get in contact with him – you won’t be disappointed.
