For the last several days, Madrone has had light winds, mostly 8-10 knots, on or just ahead of the beam. The calm conditions means that the seas have flattened out, and the cloudy skies have cleared to a blistering blue with only an occasional white puff.
Ever since we left Valdivia for Patagonia at the end of December, the pressure of normal cruising has felt increased. Is this anchorage good enough for the strong weather coming? Will this tree be strong enough to hold our shoreline? Have we anchored too close to those rocks? How will sea conditions be in the coming storm system that we’re not fast enough to avoid?
With this gentle weather, the crew has now started to relax a bit. We’ve been able to clean off some of the salt from both the inside and outside of the boat, spend time in the cockpit without ducking the cold spray, and begin to eat a bit better.
Ahhhhh!
All’s well onboard.
