Today marks the end of our third week at sea, and we’re not even to the equator yet. It turns out that the tip of Chile is a long way south!

It was eleven days ago that a Sudestada started, giving us a push to the northeast with it’s southeast winds. Since then, the low presssure that spawned the wind has dissipated, but the southeast wind has remained.

We’ve been on starboard tack nonstop, with the wind either on the beam for a beam reach or ahead of the beam for a close reach. Without a doubt, this is the fastest sailing we’ve done over such a long period of time. While we’ve had about a 0.5 knot current against us the entire time, the steady wind has allowed us to make really good progress up the long coast of Brazil.

We’re thankful for our luck so far and hope it continues.

All’s well onboard.
