We are not alone off the north coast of Brazil. The geography of Brazil’s bulge to the east creates a natural choke point for ocean traffic, and it’s been rare that we have not had 3 or 4 large freighters in sight over the past couple of days.
The large ships are headed to all corners of the globe. We saw destinations in the US, in Argentina, Brazil, and even Chile in South America, in the Caribbean, and in Africa as well as SE Asia.
We spoke with three of them to make arrangements for passing with reasonable clearance between our vessels. Everyone was very professional, and two of the ships had already seen and identified us.
