We’re still anchored off Rat Cay in the Berry Islands in the north-central Bahamas. Since we haven’t formally cleared into the country, we are technically not allowed to go ashore. Even dropping the anchor without clearing in seems to be a matter of some debate – who knew that the law was not clear?

There are a few other boats here, likely also waiting for weather to head north and east out of the hurricane zone. And good timing, as the first storm of the season has just formed to the north of Bermuda.

One of the boats is a beautiful, speedy Outremer 51 catamaran. We googled them to learn more and ended up sending an email introducing ourselves as neighbors. They quickly dinghied over, introduced themselves as Stefan and Dorothee, and offered to buy and deliver groceries to us since we are boatbound.

You can learn more about the boat and their voyage at their blog: http://sail-invia.com/. And if your German is not any better than ours, you can just use the helpful Google Translate pulldown menu on the right hand side of their homepage.

Just the latest example of the kindness of strangers. We hope that we do as well as all of the folks who have helped us out along the way.
