Madrone first arrived in Charleston almost exactly a year ago.  Since then, it feels like we’ve had more than one year’s worth of adventures – we repaired some keel damage from an uncharted rock back in Patagonia, spent a fabulous summer exploring anchorages in Maine, enjoyed a passage with some new friends, nearly killed ourselves with a long list of overdue projects, all before checking out the cruising opportunities in the southeastern corner of the US.

With a few land travel trips scheduled, we need a safe spot to tie the boat to a dock while we’re away.  And with a trip to Bermuda and the Azores in our future, a marina is the right spot to finish up a few last projects to convert Madrone from the coastal cruiser of the past year back into offshore mode.

Charleston is a perfect spot for that – there’s good access to marine businesses for Madrone, and even better access to fantastic food and drink options for her crew.  So we are now nestled into a transient berth at Cooper River Marina, biding our time in advance of next year’s adventures.
