One of the advantages of a winter in the UK is being able to spend time with family. We joined Mike’s sister and her family for a weekend excursion to the village of Appledore on the beautiful north Devon coast.

Appledore has a strong maritime heritage – its well-protected river inlet has facilitated both shipping and fishing businesses, and a shipbuilding yard has been operational for most of the past 170 years.

With classic English seafront cottages, warm restaurants and pubs, and miles of sand dunes, Appledore and the surrounding north Devon coastline makes a fantastic weekend getaway.
