Day three of the short hop to the Madeira Group is a copy of day two – slowing the boat down so that we don’t arrive at night. But this time, the bright moonlight and starry skies of the first two nights are replaced by a series of squalls.

Some of the squalls bring rain and some don’t, but all of them bring gusty winds followed by a period of very light wind. So the evening is spent adjusting the sails – smaller size when the wind pipes up, and then larger when the wind drops.

And our speed monitoring pays off – we round Ilheu Cima and pull in to Porto Santo harbor just at first light. A good short passage, and we’re very happy to be here!
