The sail from Porto Santo to the island of Madeira is just under 30nm, and the navigation is not difficult- the peaks of Madeira are visible the entire way.

But what is not clear until approaching Madeira is just how steep and dramatic those peaks are. What look like sheer cliffs carpeted in vibrant green spring from the blue water, rising from sea level to 6000ft/1800m. It’s a view that rivals some of the top landfalls we’ve made, and we’re looking forward to a chance to explore the island.
