Except for a few weeks in a marina here and there, Oso has been on the go continuously for the past six months. Since we’ve had a number of multi-day passages, it would be easy to think that the boat is already prepared for anything.

Up the mast inspecting all the rigging
All fittings inspected on deck level too

Maybe we’re overly conservative, but a long ocean passage feels different to us than a several day hop. So even though Oso is probably in fighting trim already, there’s still a long list of prep that we want to check through before leaving.

Inspecting and lubricating the steering system
Applying UHMWPE tape to the bottom of the floorboards to try to stop them from squeaking when underway

So our last several days in Santa Cruz are a whirlwind of checking, inspecting, and cleaning to get ready for the long sail to the Caribbean.

The final step is a trip to the National Police in the cruise ship terminal to check out of Spain and the EU and have our passports stamped. Now we are officially ready to go!
