Just as forecast, yesterday’s smooth sailing has been replaced by stronger winds of 25kts, gusting to 30 or more. It makes for fast sailing, but along with the strong wind comes larger, steeper waves. So we’re going fast, but the motion is also strong. One hand for the boat!

The stronger winds are behind a cold front, and that front featured moderately strong squalls, some of which featured a lot of lightning. There is not much more terrifying than a strong lightning storm at sea, where Oso’s metal mast is the only thing protruding above sea level for many miles.

But this morning’s weather is back to mostly sunny skies, although still with a lot of wind and even larger seas, and hopefully the lightning will be a distant memory soon.

All’s well aboard.
