The wind forecast today called for pretty nice conditions – 15-20 kts downwind. The reality was a bit different. A series of large squalls rolled through for the entire afternoon, alternately dropping the wind to 5 kts and increasing it to upper 20s.

We eventually dropped the sails completely and resorted to a few hours of motoring, hiding under our cockpit canvas from the torrential rain.

And then like a switch that flipped, the squalls suddenly stopped in the evening, replaced by a gentle 10 kt breeze. Oso ghosted along overnight nearly dead downwind, just enough wind to fill the sails and keep the boat moving.

A lovely end to a frustrating day.

All’s well aboard.
