At some point early in Day Nine we passed the halfway point in distance between the Canaries and the Caribbean. Whether we’re also halfway in time will depend on the wind forecast, which is currently looking a bit dubious for fast sailing after the next several days.
As if a cosmic balancing of the picture perfect weather conditions of the past several days, the overnight watches featured giant squalls. Epic rain pelted the boat and the wind swirled and gusted into the mid-twenties, only to die away again as the squall passed, leaving Oso to wallow in the waves with sails flapping uselessly in the calm.
But as usual in the tropics, the squalls evaporated by mid-morning, and we’re on our way again under overcast skies.
All’s well aboard.
