After six relaxing days anchored off the northwest coast of Barbados, it’s back to sea again for Oso and her crew. The destination this time – the island of Martinique.

Sunrise on our way to Martinique

Located about 100 nm to the northwest of Barbados, Martinique is just a bit too far away for a passage entirely during daylight hours. So we lifted the anchor under the dim light of a half moon and a starry sky at 3am. After half an hour of motoring to escape the lee of Barbados, Oso found the trades and started to sail.

This is what Caribbean sailing is all about – 15-20 kt tradewinds, a relatively calm sea state, and warm, blue water burbling gently along the hull. And an easy 15 hours later, the anchor is back down in Anse Caritan, just outside the town of Le Marin, Martinique.
