For the past week, Oso has been slowly sailing northward along Martinique’s west coast. Since the prevailing winds are from the east, this side of the island is sheltered – the water is mostly flat, with just enough wind creeping over the island to make for delightful sailing conditions.

Sailing past Diamond Rock on the on the SW coast of Martinique
At anchor in Fond Boucher. The small headland we were anchored next to had a bat cave (dark triangle shape in the photo) and great snorkeling

The coastline is dotted with shallow bays, most of which feature some coral to check out and a few beach bars and restaurants. So we spend our days snorkeling over the sealife, paddle boarding around the bay, and swimming from the back of the boat to beat the afternoon heat.

Another chill sail in the lee of Martinique

A couple hours of sailing drops us in the next anchorage – rinse and repeat.

Since Martinique is a French island the food is fantastic, even at the small beach side restaurants. Angie’s lunch of tuna tartare, frites and salad
Mike’s chicken columbo- a very tasty curry dish
