Even though we’re sailing a different boat now, our time aboard Madrone left us with feelings about Taswell sailboats that could be characterized somewhere between infatuation and obsession.

There are only ~100 Taswells around the world, so we’re always delighted to have a sighting in the wild. So imagine our surprise when we find not one, but two Taswell 43s in the anchorage in George Town at the south end of the Exumas in the Bahamas.

We of course immediately jumped in the dinghy and zipped across the anchorage to introduce ourselves, and also to check out their boats. Heartstring is owned by Scott and Jennifer of Dallas, who are sailing along with their daughter Alyssa. Remedy is sailed by Ken and Chrystie, both originally from Greenville, South Carolina.

With so few Taswells made, and with the original boatyard now exclusively building large luxury explorer motoryachts, a network of owners is the only way to get information about previously built boats. Because of that network, we’d already exchanged emails with the owners of both Heartstring and Remedy, but we had not idea they were in the Exumas, and we’d never met in person.

Now we have, and we were graciously invited aboard both boats for tours and great conversation about sailing plans. And with all three of us generally heading north in the Bahamas, we’ll no doubt get another chance to do it again in an anchorage down the road.
