After an exceedingly pleasant overnight sail north from Cape Cod, Oso nosed into the peaceful waters of Ebenecook Harbor, just off the entrance to the Sheepscot River on Southport Island. Overnight, the low sand beaches of Cape Cod has transformed into the tree-lined rocky outcroppings of the Maine coast.

Gray harbor seals maximized the advantage of low tide to soak up some sun on rock ledges, and the shingled buildings of the long-established Hodgdon boatyard graced the head of the cove. In the morning, a gauze of light fog draped across the calm waters, with wooden masts just visible over the harbor’s light blanket.

Back in the early spring, the plan for the summer included an early sail up the US east coast and an arrival in Maine in May or June. With a visit from the lightning gods pushing back the schedule and leading to months of unplanned work, an arrival in Maine tasted extra sweet. It’s good to be back.
