In one of our favorite parts of the world, what better way to enjoy it than with some of our favorite folks in the world – our parents! After long, multiple-stop flights to Bangor, everyone straps in for the quick drive to Mt Desert Island.

The island is home to Acadia National Park, but many of the areas outside the park are spectacularly beautiful, as well. With plenty of walking on the park’s justifiably-famous carriage trails as well as paths through other nature preserves, everybody counts plenty of steps at the end of each day.

Maggie and Bill Johnston are Maine natives and long-time residents of Mt Desert Island. Former sailboat cruisers who, like seemingly everyone in Maine, have a small boat for enjoying the coastline, Maggie and Bill give us a fantastic tour of the local harbors and a view of the International One Design (IOD) world championship regatta (conveniently scheduled to coincide with our visit).

A fantastic week in a fantastic place.
