We last saw our friends Jim and Janet in 2023. They’d flown over for a week of cruising Sweden’s beautiful west coast before taking over ownership of Madrone.

Mike, Janet, Jim and Angie together again on Cape Cod

Fast forward two years, Oso finds a snug anchorage on the west side of Cape Cod to wait out a small weather system, and Oso’s crew meets Madrone’s crew for a reunion. It’s great to see Jim and Janet again, and we reconnect like no time at all has passed.

Madrone looking clean and tidy on her home mooring in Stage Harbor
Onboard Madrone after over 2 years of not seeing her- she looks fantastic!

We’re exceedingly lucky, as Jim and Janet agreed to take delivery and hold what we described as “a few packages” for us. And they’re lucky – they own a thriving HVAC business that has a warehouse, so they were able to store what grew to be a small mountain of boxes. Good thing we didn’t wait any longer, or the packages would have kept coming.

We couldn’t have been luckier than having Jim and Janet take over the care of Madrone

And of course the reunion was not just with Jim and Janet. They’re kind enough to drive us out to beautiful Stage Harbor, and a short dinghy ride later we’re aboard Madrone again. They’ve been doing a great job of caretaking, and if we’re totally honest Madrone likely looks better now than she did while we lived aboard. She’s freshly washed, looking neat and tidy above decks, and the handmade teak woodwork below still oozes that distinctive golden glow.

Our mountain of boxes which had accumulated in Janet’s office over the last few months (btw, we had a couple additional ‘large boxes’ in their warehouse too!!)
