Almost exactly five days after pulling up anchor in Bermuda, we drop it again – this time into the smooth yellow sand of Road Bay on the north side of Anguilla. Over the past several weeks, Oso has carried us safely over 1500nm, from the US east coast out to Bermuda and now to the Caribbean. To say we’re happy to be here is an understatement!

Anchor down in Road Bay, Anguilla

Day Five of the trip is sailing firmly in the latitudes of the trade winds, and Oso reaches easily in the 15-20kt easterly breeze. To be sure we don’t arrive before sunrise, we spend much of the overnight watch trying to slow down – easier said than done in these conditions. We finally settle on double reefs in both the headsail and the mainsail to keep our speed under 7kts, and we nose into the harbor just after sunrise.
