It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.

On the positive side of the ledger, the wind strengthened and pulled forward to a better angle for much of the day. We made good progress until midnight or so when the wind dropped again.

To balance that out, our mainsail ripped again as it was being furled. It’s probably due to some mix of UV and wind force weakening the fabric possibly combined with, embarrassing as it is to admit, perhaps a skosh of operator error.

At least we’re only a couple hundred miles from Easter Island, the wind is forecast to be behind the beam so we should make it with just headsails, and we have plenty of sail repair supplies on board, along with a master seamstress.

The more dire situation is that we’ve run out of salsa….
