The town of Marblehead, Massachusetts, reportedly features more boats per capita than anywhere else in the world. A large, U-shaped harbor, it’s a stunning setting for the collection of boats bobbing gently on their moorings in the gentle summer breezes of Boston’s north shore.
The first armed ship of the Continental Navy (the precursor to the US Navy) hailed from Marblehead, and many of the town’s residents were involved in the Revolutionary War. Walking the town’s narrow, winding streets among the old wood-frame houses, it’s easy to imagine life in Marblehead in the 1700s.
