For the second time this year Madrone wound her way through the Cape Cod Canal, this time southbound. Her destination was the small village of Quissett, a well-protected harbor with a well-known boatyard in an incredibly picturesque New England setting.

One of the advantages of the east coast of the US is that a major airport is never far from reach and we took advantage of that to meet Angie’s parents for a visit. With Madrone safely tied to her mooring in the harbor, we rented a car, made a pilgimage to the local boat store, and then headed to the airport for the pickup.

Cape Cod turned out to be a fabulous place for a visit. A never-ending series of cedar-shingled, white-trimmed cottages lined the winding roads, while the sparkling water of Buzzard’s Bay to the north and Vineyard Sound to the south provided fantastic views around every bend.

We took it easy during the visit, staying in the small triangle between Woods Hole, Quissett, and Falmouth, so only saw one small piece of the Cape. But after this trip, we’ll be back to see more.
