One of the highlights of this summer’s trip has been the whales. Without exaggeration, it’s hard to think of a day underway in the last two months that hasn’t included some whale sightings.
Splash from a gigantic tail slap – trying to stun some fish?
Leaving Pruth Bay, we had a very peaceful sail down Fitz Hugh Sound. While sailing slowly in a dying breeze, we ghosted past a pod of humpbacks. Spouting, sounding, breaching, and slapping the water with their tails, it seems like they were just enjoying the beautiful evening as much as were were.
Of course they are most likely just fattening up for their journey to Hawaii, but it’s easy to pretend that they are putting on the show just for us.
