Dinghy hoisted and ready for sailing

Before we left for this summer’s trip, we built a temporary set of davit arms on our solar arch to better lift our dinghy out of the water.  They worked out so well that we decided to have them permanently welded on to the back of the arch.

The bolted-on temporary dinghy-lifting arms

Since it can be hard to find good marine craftspeople in Portland, we spent some time searching for folks who could do the design and fab work in a quality way.  The results of our search led us to Blackline Marine in Sydney.  Brent, Paul, and the rest of the team were great to work with, and they did a fantastic job of cutting, bending, welding and polishing.

While we were at Blackline, we also discussed adding some additional handrails to our transom.  Despite our time constraints, they found a way to build those also.

We’re very happy with the results!

All work and no play makes Mike a dull boy, so we also scheduled a side visit to our favorite Canadian brewery
