We timed our departure in an attempt to avoid a high pressure area of no wind off the Southern California coast. Our plan was good; our execution, though, was a little bit off…

We ended up sailing fast enough that we intercepted the high pressure before it could dissipate. So, last night at 4am we sailed into a fog bank with about 2kts of wind. The wind came back 4 or 5 hours later, and we’re now sailing at 6.5kts again, although we’re still heading south of the route to Hawaii.

The forecast calls for the wind to strengthen over the next couple of days, and until then we’re enjoying the smooth sea conditions, the warm sun overhead, and the deep blue water color.
