Mixed sailing conditions led to slow progress for the first half of the day. The wind dropped to 4-8kts, then would build to a decent sailing breeze before dropping again. The result was a fair amount of sail tweaking and even a couple hours of low rev motoring in an attempt to keep the boat moving.

The wind finally filled in around midnight, and since then we’ve been tearing along at 7-8kts with a 15kt wind directly on the beam. A long-period swell also arrived, so we’re sailing up and over ~8′ waves. There is plenty of motion, and we’re holding onto the boat anytime we move around.

At some point in the middle of the night, this squid ended up in the cockpit. It probably leapt out of the water to avoid being eaten, and we sailed under it at exactly the wrong time. That has to be one of the unluckiest squid around…
