We found our first flying fish on deck this morning – a sure sign we’re in the tropics!
Normally, this latitude is where the trade winds can be found. But the giant storm in the North Pacific that has pushed the light-wind high pressure system into our path has not yet broken up. It’s forecast to do that tomorrow afternoon, and that should allow the trade winds to push back north to our latitude.
Or else they won’t… At this point in the trip, there’s not really enough distance left for it to make more than a day or so difference in our arrival time. And we are enjoying ourselves enough that an extra day could actually be a good thing! We’re settled into our routine, Angie continues to cook delicious food (half-way cake yesterday, just a couple days late…), and our solar panels are providing plenty of power to make all the water we need.
So, we’ll continue to poke along at 5 knots under spinnaker and enjoy the ride.
