Before we left, Angie browsed Craigslist for all sorts of things that she thought might be useful on our trip. One of the items we picked up based on her searching is a deep blue asymmetrical spinnaker. A guy in Tiburon sold his boat and was now getting rid of some extra sails.

Wait, you say, I’m sure I already saw a photo of a different spinnaker. You’re right, but this one is a bit different – it’s slightly too small for our boat and is made of even thinner nylon than our existing spinnaker. The combination of those two things seems to allow this sail to stay full of wind, even when the boat is rolling around in the waves beneath it.

One more day of 8-12kt breeze, which is really too light for fast sailing with Madrone’s white sails. Angie’s Craigslist spinnaker, which we have named Code Blue, has turned out to be perfect. We put it up at sunrise, jibed once midday for a wind shift, and will unfortunately take it down before dark.

It’s been a peaceful day running downwind – warm air and blue skies only interrupted by fluffy white popcorn clouds.
