The trek began at Ulua Lagoon- Enjoying the view and a cold frosty one

The coastline at Ko Olina is indented with four small lagoons.  During the original construction of the resort, these bays were expanded, and sand was transported in from Lanai to make perfect crescent-shaped beaches.

These lagoons are popular with the guests of the hotels that line the shores here.  Like all other beaches in Hawai’i, they are also open to the public.  So, there’s a nice mix of vacationers and local families.

Exploration is hard work at Honu Lagoon

Each of the lagoons is named after a native Hawaiian marine animal- UluaNai’aHonu, and Koholā Lagoons.  Because of the extreme conditions during the trek, Madrone’s crew stopped for refreshment at each of the lagoons.
