The weather looks to be shaping up for a departure for the mainland this weekend – the trade winds have decreased from strong (20-25 knots) to moderate (15-20 knots) and the waves are also predicted to drop to 4-6 feet. Since the first 5 days or so of the trip home is likely to be into the wind and waves, we’ve been waiting for a forecast of lighter-than-normal conditions. And now it’s here!
We’ve spent quite a bit of the last several days preparing the boat for the trip. We deflated, cleaned, and stored the dinghy and engine, ensured that all of our various deck drains are freely flowing so that water doesn’t overflow into somewhere it shouldn’t go, and made numerous trips to the grocery store so that we completely fill our fridge, freezer, and pantry area with food.
After 3 or 4 days of off and on rain squalls, we also took advantage of a sunny day to rent a pair of paddleboards and taking a leisurely trip up the scenic Hanalei River.
We’ll continue to update the blog from sea, so please follow along on our trip home.
