We are on the edge of the Pacific high, and conditions at the start of the day are the perfect antidote for beating to windward – light wind, flat seas, and bright sunshine. It’s hard to believe we’re in the open ocean nearly 700 miles from land. Light wind means slow progress, but conditions are so lovely that it doesn’t matter.

The wind continues to back off, and we’re forced to start the engine around 2am. Madrone needs at least 7-8 knots of breeze to make meaningful progress, and we hope to have some wind fill back in starting late tonight or tomorrow morning.

Angie’s fishing skill paid off again when she pulled in a large and beautiful mahi!
