As advertised, the wind slowly dropped all day. We were able to sail slowly, but steadily, until 2am or so. At that point, the wind dropped for an hour, then came back, then dropped, then came back, then… The benefit is that we have plenty of sail handling practice!
Madrone can sail upwind until the wind drops to 4-5 knots – at that speed, the wind is not strong enough to overcome the weight of the sail fabric itself. Downwind, we need at least 6-7 knots to keep the spinnaker full in the waves.
We hope that the forecast is accurate and the wind comes back tomorrow!
