After a couple of relaxing days at anchor in the lee of Punta Colonet, the appearance of a gentle SW breeze encouraged us to haul up the anchor and sail to our next destination, Isla San Martín 30 nm to the south.
We had a easy-going sail to Isla San Martín. Angie was fortunate to catch another bonito while trolling her handline behind Madrone- so fresh fish was on tonight’s dinner menu!
Isla San Martín is a volcanic cinder cone about 3 nm offshore of Baja, just north of Cabo San Quintín. It has a small cove, Caleta Hassler, on its southeast corner where we dropped the anchor in crystal clear water. We shared the cove with a small fish camp and many pangas.
We landed the dinghy on the protected beach to stretch our legs. But, since there are no trails and the landscape is comprised of lava rocks and cactus, so our walk was confined to the beach. No worries- it was still a nice stop.
