San Juanico has a huge panga fleet. In the early morning they launch from the beach and zip out to the fishing and lobster grounds. They return in the afternoon or evening pull their panga up onto the beach, where it lies ready for manana.

We had so much fun surfing Scorpion Bay that we stayed in San Juanico for five days, although we had mostly smaller waves for the second half of our visit.  When we weren’t surfing, we enjoyed walking around the small town.

We topped up provisions at the small grocery stores (about half the size of a US convenience store), enjoyed tacos and drinks under a palapa at the beachfront restaurant, and walked out the long point imagining how the waves would light up with a large swell running.

This is where the tortilla magic was happening. These tortillas were the best we have ever tasted- absolutely delicious!

Because of the surf, there is a steady stream of visitors to San Juanico.  There’s a campground that supports the folks who come with trailers or tents, and there are numerous rooms to rent and even a hotel in the small town.

Nothing beats a hamburguesa, papas fritas and a margarita after surfing Scorpion Bay

All of the surf-related activity made for a fun couple of days, and we could easily imagine coming back for a longer visit.
