La Cruz is large enough to support a local veterinarian. Angie is thinking of applying for a job…

La Cruz de Huanacaxtle (or just La Cruz) is a small town on the northern edge of Banderas Bay, about an hour away from Puerto Vallarta.  In 2008, the harbor was renovated and a marina and boatyard were built.  With modern docks and an attentive staff, the marina a good place to securely store a boat while away, or just to park and live for those folks who enjoy being in a marina instead of at anchor.

The population of La Cruz is not big enough to support large stores, so we took the local bus to Bucerias nearby (and shared the bus with a bucket of freshly caught fish)

For those who prefer to be at anchor (like Madrone’s crew), the marina provides a dock to use for the dinghy when coming ashore.  There are enough boats in the marina to support a marine store – the first we’ve seen since Ensenada.  So the town is very friendly to visiting boaters, and as a result many folks spend more time than originally planned in La Cruz.

We spent almost a week in La Cruz, which is a fairly long time  for Madrone.  Like others, we enjoyed the easy access to town, the delicious food, the plentiful iguanas sunning themselves in the trees, and the easy pace of life.  We’ll be back in early March for a visit from Mike’s sister, brother-in-law, and nephew, and we’re looking forward to returning.

There is a lot of live music in La Cruz- we went to Octopus Gardens to see a traditional Mexican band
