Once acclimated to the commanding view of the coastline and the ocean from our rental house, it was time to begin exploring town. Formerly a sleepy fishing village, the beautiful surroundings and outstanding winter weather have driven Sayulita’s rapid growth.
Once down the hill from our house and into the main part of town, a mix of local shops (abarrotes and small taco stands) and tourist stores (clothes boutiques and surf shops) fill each side of the busy streets. A bustling square is adjacent to the town church, and the beautiful crescent beach invites everyone down to the water.
We fell into an agreeable routine – mornings were spent taking the surf truck to look for surf, while we filled the afternoons with strolling on the local beach, enjoying the energy of town, and contemplating the difficult decision of where to have dinner in the evening.
