Angie on a small wave at La Lancha

Punta Mita is hard to beat. Only 12 miles west of La Cruz, it’s an idyllic experience to sail out to the point in the warm late afternoon breeze with the sun slowly lowering into the horizon.

A nice clean ride

This was our fourth or fifth visit to this spot. In addition to a decent anchorage with a beautiful view of the point itself, Punta Mita also boasts 4 or 5 surf spots. Our typical go to is called La Lancha – while not the best wave, it’s definitely the most reliable. Some of the other spots are better when the swell is larger, but in the typical small wave conditions of Mexican winter La Lancha always seems to have something to ride.

Ceviche with Brad, Sonni & her brother Sam

After surfing, our favorite spot is a small ceviche cart at the top of the main road through town. There are typically a couple of styles of ceviche (we’ve learned that cubierto is our favorite) freshly made, and from time to time they’ll also offer fish tacos. There are no drinks at the stand, so they just direct you to the small grocery store next door to buy sodas, beer, or water.

Yum!

We enjoyed this trip to Punta Mita with our friends aboard SV Luego. In addition to Brad and Sonni being great company, they’re also happy to let us spend some quality dog time with their dogs Pip and Mac.

Angie & Pip- hard to say who is happier?
