While visiting Mexico City, we caught a couple of minor league baseball games. We had such a good time that we timed a visit to Guanajuato to coincide with some home games for the local minor league team, the Bravos de Leon.
If anything, these games were even better. The stadium in León is smaller and older, which made for more low-key and friendly surroundings. And the atmosphere was festive – music between every pitch, much of the crowd on their feet and dancing, and people celebrating making the big video screen in the outfield.
The best part, of course, was the food. We feasted on tacos, salivated at the smell of fresh, made-to-order burgers sizzling on the grill, and couldn’t resist the charcoal-grilled ribs. While the level of play on the field is a bit shy of what you see in the big leagues in the US, the food is definitely ready for a call up to the majors.
